I just finished Something Nice Back Home. I haven’t seen this episode in ages. Poor Jack, fucking things up with Kate like that. So many issues you have (it’s okay though, season six is good to you). But was struck me, even more so now because she’s gone, is just how good Juliet is. While Jack is having his trust issues off island, Juliet’s all, Imma take out an organ in a tent, cool with that? Jack: Okey Dokey. Of course he needs his *eyeroll*bbkate*eyeroll* around. Still, though. He trusts Juliet so much it’s not even an issues. And the way she just DOES IT. No time to waste.
My favorite part? When Juliet is telling Sun what she needs from the medical station and Sun doesn’t know anything about clamps and the supplies she needs. Daniel jumps in, offers to help, but since they have that whole we didn’t come here to rescure you thing, they’re all skeptical. Daniel makes his case and before he finishes, Juliet turns to Jin and simply, calmly, tells him, fuckers try anything, I give you permission to shoot them. It’s so perfect because people give Juliet so much flack and they forget she’s been one hundred percent loyal to the camp.
This is probably my least favorite episode of the series - and I admit that’s partially for personal reasons, and some of those were me being so friggin’ INFURIATED at Juliet being second best again - but goddamn if she isn’t awesome. She’s just cold sewing up people in tents, dealing with these people and their Issues. Maybe it comes down to what made me love Juliet, and what made her doomed for being too competent. She has Issues, of course, but she deals with them. She doesn’t spend episode after episode mooning after Jack and looking jealous when he talks to Kate. She makes a clean break. And, notably for Lost, she sticks to it. As much as I love Jacket, it’s nice that we never saw her get all swoony and “maybe I shouldn’t have picked Sawyer” when most of the Oceanic 6 showed up in 1977. She’s an adult. And whether she’s removing an appendix or dealing with wacky scientists or navigating the multi-headed hydra of Lost’s romantic plotlines, she deals with shit - disappointment, uncertainty, and crappy working conditions alike - as an adult does.
